On Saturday evening March 22nd units from Station 11 were dispatched to a reported auto accident with entrapment on Interstate 66. Initial reports indicated the accident was westbound just past the exit for 234-Business. While units were responding, E511's officer reported that the accident was going to be just prior to the exit for 234-Business, forcing responding units to first proceed eastbound to access the scene. E511's officer also instructed T511 to attempt access from the shoulder of the eastbound lanes. As a result, T511 proceeded across the eastbound lanes of I-66 and accessed the scene from the eastbound shoulder via ground ladder. After an initial scene size-up T511's officer confirmed there was no entrapment and there was likely to be one ALS patient and possibly three BLS patients to be transported. E511 arrived on scene shortly thereafter and established command. Crews from E511 and T511 secured hazards and assisted M511 and A511 with patient packaging and transport. M511 treated and transported one ALS patient and A511 treated and transported three BLS patients. Company 11 crews turned the scene over to the State Police shortly thereafter.
Although the initial reports were correct that an individual had been pinned underneath the vehicle, an off-duty police officer and other passersby had been able to lift the car off the patient prior to our arrival.
