By General Member Steve Schmid
September 26, 2007

At approximately 1400 hrs, Wagon 511 was dispatched for a "chemical smell" in the Sudley North area of their due. While responding to the smell, they were diverted to Carlyle Station for a fire alarm which had been quickly upgraded to an apartment fire. Residents in the community had called communications reporting smoke rolling out of the residence. Upon arrival, Wagon 511's crew found the fire had been extinguished by the apartment building's sprinkler system. There were still burning embers in the dryer and the apartment was filled with smoke. Command held Wagon and Truck 511 to check for extension into the wall and to remove smoke. The truck crew also worked to minimize the water damage caused by the sprinkler activation. Crews eventually turned the apartment over to maintenance personnel to complete salvage work.
