July 5, 2007

The 4th of July was very busy through out the county! A 511 seemed to hardly clear the hospital, then dispatched to another call. Engine 511 was dispatched in the early evening to a brush fire in 25's due. With many units on scene and heavy fire, Engine 511 responded down Hornbacker Road. Upon arrival, Engine 511 was met with heavy smoke and fire in their immediate path of travel. Hornbacker Road was blocked with a wall of fire and smoke. Brush 504 and Attack 501 were in the direct line of fire and out of water. Lines were pulled from the Engine and water was supplied to Brush 504 and Attack 501. After a full tank of water, fire extension was controled and overhaul began. Approximately 5-7 acres burned with 10 mile/hour winds feeding the flames.
After clearing Hornbacker Road, Engine 511 was dispatched to a dumpster fire. Upon arrival, the dumpster was fully involved with minimal exposures. Extinguishment was fast, but messy.
A few hours later, a house fire was dispatched in Manassas Park. Truck 511 and Engine 511 responded. Truck 511 was the first specialty peice on scene. Truck 511 was assigned primary search. Engine 511 was the third pumper on scene and assigned to extension. The fire was extinguished, Truck 511 and Engine 511 assisted other units in overhaul. Areas of the house were deemed hazardous, because portions of the floor joists were saging.
Ambulance 511 spent multiple hours filling in for Company 6 and Engine 511 was dispatched to fill in for Fairfax/Centreville for much of the early morning.

Units: Multiple County and 2nd due units
