Probationary FF Stephanie York had been begging for an auto fire so it was no surprise when the tones dropped at 0528 for Box 1181 for an auto fire on I-66 West in the area of the 48 mile marker. On our way there Prince William communications updated us that they were getting multiple calls and that it could be in the area of the 52 mile marker which is well inside Fairfax County. It wasn't until we got close to the 50 that we saw the colum of smoke on the west bound side. We advised Fairfax of the correct location of the fire. We crossed over to the west bound side just as Engine 438 and Medic 438 from Centreville were coming into view. We managed to get on scene and get the fire knocked down before the Fairfax arrived to help vent the vehicle and block traffic on the interstate. We remained on scene until the tow truck arrived to collect the vehicle. Fortunately for the owner, it appeared that the vehicle was not a total loss.
