| At 2207, Ambulance and Medic 511 were dispatched to Box 1144 for an injury at 10982 Tower Place. Upon arrival, units found a 12 year old patient with her leg trapped in the rear wheel of a motorcycle. The patient's right leg had slipped from a riding peg and become stuck between the wheel and the swing arm. M511 immediately requested T511 for the extrication and the EMS crews began patient care.
T511 arrived and began the extrication by stabilizing the motorcycle and protecting the patient with a fire blanket. The truck crew decided to use reciprocating saws to cut through the swing arm. Due to the close proximity to the patient's leg, a short backboard was used to further protect the patient from the saw blade.
Several cuts were required to remove the swing arm, including one cut through a solid 3 by 1.5 inch thick piece of supporting metal.
The patient was safely extricated by 2250 and turned over to A511's crew for care and transport to the hospital. Units cleared at 2300. |
