| Stonewall Jackson Vol. Fire and Rescue Company sent 4 students and 2 instructors to the Charlottesville- Albemarle Rescue Squad for an extensive 3 day class of vehicle extrication. Training included vehicle anatomy, vehicle stabilization, use of hand tools and hydraulic tools for patient extrication, airbags usage and patient packaging. While the first day consisted of all lecture, the second day was divided into morning and afternoon rotations. This allowed the students to have hands on up close use of tools, airbags, and proper patient packaging on actual cars. The third day of class is the final scenario known as the 'Colossal Car Crash'. Each group is given a collection of cars mashed, mangled and atop of one another, to which the group must then come up with their own ideas as to how to extract the patient in an effective, safe manner using the skills taught in the days previous. Stonewall is usually given the hardest scenario.
